WEEK OF APRIL 1 to APRIL 5

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We begin the concept of Factoring this week.. It is considered one of the most concepts that you will learn this year in Algebra.  We start by looking for a GCF, greatest common factor, and taking it out of a given polynomial.  For example take the expression  5x + 10.  The GCF is 5 so we write this as 5 (x +2) and you have just factored.  A quiz on Sections 8-3 to 8-5 is scheduled for Thursday.  It will be the last one of the term.

ALGEBRA 1 CP2
The week begins with the class finishing the Pythagorean Theorem and beginning Chapter 9 on Polynomials.  This week we will learn how to add and subtract polynomials and how to write them in ascrnding or descending order.  The weekly Friday quiz will also include material from the previous week on Scientific Notation and the Pythagorean Theorem.  This quiiz will go on the fourth term..The class has already been told this.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We continue our work in Chapter 10 with Circles, this week concentrating on inscribed angles and secants and tangents.  We will compare an inscribed angle to a central angle and we will also discover some new rules affecting tangents of circles.  I do not have a quiz scheduled for this week so your grades are basically closed with exception of the daily homework.  Please check on Aspen.

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We continue our work on Conics this week by introducing you to Hyperbolas.  We will spend at least two days on this topic and probably have a quiz Thursday on Ellipses and Hyperbolas.to end the the term.

WEEK OF MARCH 25 to MARCH 29

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
Last week we worked on adding, subtracting, and multplying monomials and polynomials.  We will review Monday for a Quiz on Tuesday on these concepts which are in Sections 8-1 & 8-2.
Then I will show you how to multiply a binomials and trinomials together.  Since all of you know the Distributive Property, this should not be as difficult as it sounds.

ALGEBRA 1 CP2
The week begins with the class going over the concept of Scientific Notation, something they have had in either their math or science class before.  From there we will work on simplifying square roots with the use of a calculator.  Then we will apply this concept to the Pythagorean Theorem and spend the rest of the week in this area.  I am not planning a quiz this week because of the short week.  I will add this material to next week's quiz.

GEOMETRY HONORS
Last week we started Chapter 10 on Circles.  This week will spent discussing angles, arcs, and chords of circles, with a quiz tentatively scheduled for Thursday.  In these sections you will be introduced to major and minor arcs, and semicircles.  The formula for Arc Length will also be discussed.

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We have a quiz Monday on Sections 8-1 to 8-3.  We did a review last Friday to prepare for this.  The rest of the week will spent introducing you to the Ellipse and the Hyperbola, two other types of Conic Sections.  When these two sections are completed, we will have our next quiz, more than likely on the last week of the term.

WEEK OF MARCH 18-22

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We begin the week by reviewing Sections 7-3 & 7-4 for a quiz Tuesday.  Then we will discuss the concepts of growth and decay, and compound interest.  With that we will have finished Chapter 7.  I have yet to decide whether we will have a Chapter Test or just move on to the next chapter.

ALGEBRA 1 CP2
We continue our work this week with exponents and powers.  Much of the week will be spent multiplying and dividing variables with exponents and our weekly quiz will be Friday.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We begin week reviewing for a quiz on Sections 8-4 to 8-6 Tuesday.  Then we will review for a Chapter Test scheduled for Friday.  Our next chapter is all about Circles.

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We have a Chapter 9 Test scheduled for Monday after reviewing for it in detail last week.  From there we will go back to Chapter 8, which is on Conic Sections.  We will learn about circles ellipses. hyperbolas, and more extensive work on parabolas.

Just a reminder to my Period B and C classes.  On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday our classes will be moved because of MCAS Testing.  Period B goes to Room 219 and Period C goes to Room 226.  You will not be allowed down Yellow Hallway during Periods A through D these days, so bring all your materials with you.

WEEK OF MARCH 11 to MARCH 15

Well another day off because of snow.  Because of this all quizzes scheduled for last Friday will now be on Monday.

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We start the week with a quiz on Sections 7-1 & 7-2, multiplying and dividing monomials with negative exponents included.  Then we will cover Section 7-3 on Rational exponents.  This means that now we have exponents that are fractions.  Before our next quiz we will also have to cover Scientific Notation, which most of you have seen in your science classes.

ALGEBRA 1 CP2
We have a quiz Monday on Absolute Value Inequalities.  Then we will spend at least two days graphing inequalities with two variables before we start a unit on Powers and Exponents.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We continue Section 8-3, Testing for Parallelograms Monday, review Tuesday, and quiz Wednesday on Sections 8-1 to 8-3.  Then we move on to 8-4 & 8-5, Rectangles, Rhombi, and Squares, all special types of parallelograms with their own special properties.

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
Monday we start a review of Sections 9-3, 9-4, and 9-6 for a quiz Tuesday or Wednesday.  When this is completed we go to Section 9-5, on classes of functions, all of which we have covered this year.  This will finish the chapter so I have a Test scheduled for next week.  Details to follow.....

WEEK OF MARCH 4-8

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We start Chapter 7 this week, on Exponents and Exponential Functions.  Monady we cover Sect. 7-1, the multiplication properties of exponents.  From there we go to Sect. 7-2, the division of exponents.  In this section you will be introduced to negative exponents and how to write them.  A quiz is scheduled for Friday on these two sections.

ALGEBRA 1 CP2
For the last 2-3 weeks we have been working with inequalities.  We continue this week with Absolute Value Inequalities.  All of you are familiar with Absolute Value Equations, especially since I include one every week as part of your review questions on your quizzes, so the inequality is not much different.  Our weekly quiz will be on Friday as usual.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We are now in Chapter 8 on Quadrilaterals.  The first type you will work on this week is the parallelogram, which has several properties that you will need to learn.  From there we will take a quadrilateral and test to see if it is a paralleogram by using several methods.  A quiz is scheduled for Fridayon Sections 8-1 to 8-3.

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We jump up to Section 9-6 Monday.  It deals with solving Rational Equations and Inequalities.  Then we will go back to 9-4, Direct, Inverse, and Joint Variaton.  Beacuse of the half-day this week I am not able to get a quiz in this week but expect one EARLY next week.
