This week we will learn how to graph linear relations. We will graph equations such as : 1) 2x + 3y = 6, 2) y=3, 3) x=5, and 4) y=2x - 3 by first making a table and then displaying the points we have chosen on a coordinate graph. Our usual quiz will be Friday.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We continue our work that began Friday in Chapter 6, covering Sections 6-2 & 6-3, Similar Polygons and Triangles. I am planning a quiz for either Thursday or Friday, depending on how quickly you pick up the material. Homework each day this week will be in the form of worksheets.
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
A quiz is scheduled for Tuesday this week on Sections 5-7 & 5-8, of which we will review Monday. Then I will explain to you how to take the square root of a negative number. Until now you have beeen told that it cannot be done, but through the use of imaginary numbers you will now be able to do so. This will be continued after our Holiday break.
I hope that all of you have a safe and restful Holiday Season and that you enjoy the company of your family and loved ones.

WEEK OF OCT. 29- NOV. 2
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
Because of the shortened week, we will do a Practice Chapter 2 Test in class to finish for homework Wednesday. This is to prepare you for the Chapter Test on Friday. Next week we will begin Chapter 3 on Linear Equations and Functions.
ALGEBRA 1 CP2
Our week is short this week so my plan is to work on solving equations that are mult-step and those that contain variables on both sides. We will still have our weekly quiz Friday, but it may contain more review questions than usual. Next week we will finish up Chapter 4 by solving equations using grouping symbols. aka the Distributive Property, which you already know. Chapter 5 will introduce us to Ratio & Proportion, Percent, and Probability/Odds.
GEOMETRY HONORS
The shortened week will give us just enough time to review and test on Chapter 3. We will do a Practice Test Wednesday, wrap it up Thurday, and test on Friday. Next week we begin Chapter 4 on Congruent Triangles. In this chapter we will review the classification of triangles by sides and angles, discuss Isosceles Triangles, and learn the Theorems used in proving that triangles are congruent. We will do extensive work with Proofs in this chapter.
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
The week will begin with a Chapter 3 Practice Review Worksheet. Wednesday and Thursday will be spennt covering the concepts from Chapter 3 so that we can have a Chapter Test Friday. From there we will jump up to Chapter 5, Polynomials. It is probably the longest chapter in our text and we will spend some quality time here, especially on the concept of Factoring.
After this week we have only one more week before the First Term is over. There is still plenty of time for anyone that owes me missing work to get it done and turned in to me. The term has absolutely flown by and the beginning of the next term has several days off and holidays. So now is NOT the time to ease up. STAY FOCUSED.

OPENING DAY YELLOW TEAM 2012-2013
Welcome to Yellow Team. I hope your summer was a relaxing one. I'm excited to get going again. Freshman year can be very stressful for some people, especially with the size of our school, but after a few days you should feel more comfortable moving around the building. It is very important that you make good choices and don't always listen to people you don,t know. Right now you are quite vulnerable and don,t know your way around.
Homework is very important. It reinforces everything we learn in class. You will get homework in Math just about every night, INCLUDING WEEKENDS. Please come to class every day prepared to work. Make sure you always have your book available and ALWAYS bring a writing utensil to class. I am not "STAPLES".
Your first homework assignment after Day 1 will be to try to create 1-2 words using what we did in class. Please have your parents help you. Good Luck!

The week begins with a review of Sections 9-1 & 9-2 for a quiz Tuesday. Wednesday is a half-day and we will do Problem Solving. Then Section 9-6 will be discussed. It concerns solving Rational Equations and Inequalities. We will spend at least two days on this concept before a review and a quiz.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
Last week was spent working on Point-Slope. This week we will cover the Slope-Intercept Form, also known as y=mx+b. Wednesday is a half-day so we will do a Problem Solving assignment. Our usual quiz will be Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
The week begins with graphing Systems of Inequalities. We have already graphed one inequality on the coordinate axes but now we will graph two inequalities on the SAME graph. In many cases the graphs will overlap when shading. This will be the solution. Wednesday is a half-day and we will do a Problem Solving assignment. From there we will begin one of the most important chapters of the year. It is on Polynomials and all of their properties. We will spend a few weeks on this chapter, covering it quite thoroughly.
GEOMETRY HONORS
This week will be spent discussing the Special Right Triangles, the 45-45-90 and the 30-60-90. A quiz is scheduled for Friday on these concepts. Wednesday, the half-day, will be a Problem Solving day.

WEEK OF JAN.30-FEB.3
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We begin the week with a Chapter 6 Test. From there we are going to skip up to Chapter 9, Rational Exponents and Equations. The rest of the week will be spent on Rational Expressions, including :1) Simplifying, 2) Adding, 3) Subtracting, 4) Multiplying, and 5) Dividing. Your knowledge of factoring is a must when solving these, especially the multiplication and division types of these problems.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
The week begins with a continuation of the concept of Slope. The Point-Slope Formula will be introduced and we will work on this all week with a quiz on Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
Last week we solved Systems of Equations by the the Substitution Method. This week we will solve these equations by the Elimination Method, which includes addition and multiplication. Worksheets will be assigned each day with a quiz either at the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
GEOMETRY HONORS
Last week we worked with radicals in order to prepare for Chapter 7. This week we begin the chapter on Right Triangles and Trigonometry. Section 7-1 talks about the Geometric Mean. We will fill out Graphic Organizers on this concept and apply it to our homework. Section 7-2 reintroduces us to the Pythagorean Theorem and its Converse, which we will also put on a Graphic Organizer. If there is time left in the week, we will begin the section on special right triangles, the 45-45-90 and the 30-60-90. Our next quiz will be sometime next week after we finish Sections 7-1 to 7-3.

WEEK OF JAN. 23-27
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
The week begins with Section 6-6 being discussed, Analyzing Graphs of Quadratic Funtions. In this section we will learn how to write the Quadratic Function in Vertex Form and then graph it. Then we will finish off the chapter with Section 6-7, Solving and Graphing Quadratic Inequalities. A Chapter Test will occur next week after a thorough review.

WEEK OF JAN.2-6
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We start off the week by continuing Section 6-1 on graphing Quadratic Functions. Then we will work on solving Quadratic Equations by several methods. First we will graph for solutions. Then we will solve by Factoring, Completing the Square, and the Quadratic Formula. We will spend at least two days on each concept with several quizzes included.

We have been working on solving Inequalities and will continue the concept by solving Compound Inequalities, which are two inequalities in the same problem. From there we move on to solving Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities. We will spend at least two days on each concept with a quiz early next week.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We begin the week by discussing Similar Polygons and their properties. You will use the idea of scale factor to set up proportions to find missing values of the polygons. From there we will go on to Similar Triangles and their properties (AA, SSS, and SAS). A quiz is scheduled for early next week.
I hope you all had a restful vacation but now it's time to get back to work. There are only three weeks left in the second term so it is important that you make your best effort now.
