WEEK OF DEC. 19-23
ALGEBRA 2 HOchcNORS
The week starts off with a review of Section 5-9, Complex Numbers, for a quiz Tuesday. From there we will begin our work in Chapter 6, Quadratic Functions and Inequalities. In this chapter we will solve Quadratic Functions and Equations by graphing, factoring, completing the square, and the Quadratic Formula. We will continue this after our XMAS break.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week will be spent reviewing all of the concepts we have covered so far this year. We will do review worksheets Monday through Wednesday with a Review Quiz Thursday, since there is no school Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
Last week we began a chapter on solving Inequalities by doing one-step problems. This week will be spent on solving multi-step Inequalities, which are done the same way as if we were solving equations. A quiz is planned for Thursday.
GEOMETRY HONORS
The week starts off with a review of Chapter 5 on Inequalities in Polygons and Triangles for a Chapter Test on Tuiesday. Then we begin Chapter 6 on Proportions and Similarity in Polygons and Triangles. We will continue this after the XMAS break.
I hope that all of you have a safe and Happy Holiday season. When we return from break, we will have only three weeks before the end of the second term and we be half way through the school year, believe it or not.

WEEK OF DEC. 12-16

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We start the week off by continuing Section 5-8 on Radical Equations and Inequalities. We will have a quiz Wednesday on Sections 5-7 & 5-8 and the go onto Section 5-9, Complex Numbers. There will not be a Chapter Test on Chapter 5 because of its length and the amount of material covered in it.

ALGEBRA 1A CP2
The week will spent on Probability and Odds, including compound events. There is a difference between probability and odds and students seem to always have trouble with odds, so we will be spending the entire week on this concept with our usual quiz on Friday.

ALGEBRA 1A CP1
We start the week off by reviewing Chapter 5 for a Chapter 5 Test Wednesday. Then we will begin Chapter 6 on solving Inequalities and will continue this up to the vacation and after it.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We start the week off by continuing Section 5-1 on Bisectors, Medians, and Altitudes. I also plan on covering Sections 5-2, 5-4, and 5-5 this week with a test next week. The concepts we will learn this week include Inequalities in Tirangles and the Triangle Inequality Theorem.

WEEK OF DEC. 5-9
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We begin the week with a quiz on Radicals. From there we will cover Section 5-7 which deals with Rational Exponents, both positive and negative. I also intend to begin Section 5-8 on Radical Equations and Inequalities.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we continue our work with Percents by introducing real-life applications such as sales tax and discount. These are concepts you will use for the rest of your life. If there is time this week I am going to introduce the idea of Probability and Odds. We will have our usual quiz Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We continue our work this week with Point-Slope and Slope-Intercept by applying them to the concept of parallel and perpendicular lines. Parallel lines have the same slope and perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other. Then we have one more section to cover and we will have finished Chapter 5. A Chapter Test is coming up next week.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We wrap up Chapter 4 and have a Test on it Wednesday. Then we go to Chapter 5, Relationships in Triangles. Such ideas as bisectors, medians, and altitudes will be covered in the first section. We need to spend at least two days on this concept because of all the new termino

WEEK OF NOV. 28-DEC. 2
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
This week we will be working with radicals and their operations. We will have a quiz on Friday. Then we will begin work on rational exponents and radical equations.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
We have been working on the Percent Proportion and will continue this Monday. Then we will move to the Percent Equation, which is basically the same concept and will spend the rest of the week on it with our usual quiz Friday.
ALGEBRA 1CP1
We continue our work with Slope-Intercept (y=mx+b) and then go to Point-Slope for 2-3 days. A quiz is scheduled for the end of the week.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We have been working on proving triangles congruent by using the SSS, SAS, ASA, and AAS Postulates in formal two-column proofs. This week we take this another step by proving that corresponding parts are congruent. The concept of CPCTC will be reintroduced and used in our proofs. A quiz is scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday. Then we will move on to Isosceles Triangles

WEEK OF NOV. 21-25
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We finish off Section 5-4 on Factoring Monday and have a quiz on Tuesday. After our break, we will start working with radicals.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
We continue our work with proportions. Word problems will be introduced Monday. Tuesday will find us working on the Percent Proportion and we will continue this after Thanksgiving. No quiz this week!!
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We start the week off with a quick quiz on Slope. Then we will work on the concept of Slope-Intercept (y=mx+b) and will continue this after Thanksgiving.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We continue working on proving triangles congruent by solving proofs using SSS, SAS. ASA, and AAS. We will continue this after Thanksgiving including the concept of CPCTC in our proofs.

WEEK OF NOV.13-18
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
This week we will continue our packet on Factoring with Problem Solving on the half-day Wednesday. Homework will be from the packet. We will have a quiz/test some time next week.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we begin Chapter 5, on Proportions and Probability. We will spend most of the week learning how to solve proportions with Problem Solving on the half-day Wednesday. Our usual quiz will be Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We will have a quiz Tuesday on Sections 4-5 & 4-6, graphing equations in Standard Form and Functions. Problem Solving is on the half-day Wednesday. Then we will go to Chapter 5 and introduce you to the concept of Slope.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We have been working on Angles of Triangles and I will spend one more day on the concept. From there we will begin to, prove that Triangles are Congruent using the following: SSS, SAS, ASA, and AAS. We will also do Problem Solving on the half-day Wednesday

WEEK OF NOV. 7-11
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We continue Sect. 5-3, Dividing Polynomials, on Monday with a worksheet, review Sect. 5-1 to 5-3 on Tuesday, and quiz on Wednesday. Then we will start a unit on Factoring from Sect. 5-4. We will spend several days on this section and then have a quiz on it sometime next week.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
We have been solving equations for a least two weeks now and will continue to do so. On Monday we will finish up equations with variables on both sides and then go on to equations with grouping symbols, using the Distributive Property. We will have our quiz Thursday because of the short week.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We start the week off by graphing Linear Equations in Standard Form, Ax+By=C, by introducing and using the x-and -y intercepts. From there you will be introduced to the concept of Functions. We will learn why a relation is a function and the use of function notation f(x).
GEOMETRY HONORS
The week begins with a review of Chapter 3, with a Test tomorrow. Then we will begin Chapter 4, Congruent Triangles. You will learn how to classify triangles by sides and angles, and then go on to Angles of Triangles. Concepts to be covered include the Triangle Angle Sum Theorem and the Exterior Angle Theorem.
First Term is now officially over. Repost Cards come out Thursday. This week starts a new term and we need to stay consistent in our efforts. With the Holidays coming our minds tend to wander(mine included), but we need to stay focused. As always I am after school most every day. Just check with me if you are coming.

WEEK OF OCT.31-NOV.4
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We are having a Test Tuesday on Chapter 3. Monday was spent as a review day and I was after school for help yesterday. We will then begin work in Chapter 5 on Polynomials. The most important section is the one on Factoring, 5-4, but you will be reintroduced to the concepts of Monomials and their operations, as well as polynomials.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week will be spent solving multi-step equations, as well as equations with variables on both sides. This is one of the most important concepts of Algebra 1 and needs to be covered thoroughly, so we will spend extra time on it. We have our usual quiz on Friday, but since the term ends Friday, the grades will go on the second term.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We ended last week discussing the Coordinate Plane and the plotting of points on a graph. The class was very comfortable with this concept because you have worked on this for the past 3-4 years. From there we will cover the concept of Transformations and the different types (reflection, translation, dilation, and rotation), and how they are drawn on a coordinate graph. From there you will be introduced to relations and functions. If we have any type of quiz this week it will go on the second term because grades close Friday.
GEOMETRY HONORS
Last week we started discussing Point-Slope and Slope-Intercept forms of equations of lines. Yesterday we finished these concepts with a worksheet for homework. From there we will talk about the rules used to prove that lines are parallel given that they are not parallel to start off. Then we will finish off the chapter by finding the distance between two parallel lines. Expect a Chapter Test sometime next week

WEEK OF OCT. 24-28
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We have been graphing systems of inequalities and will continue this with Section 3-4, Linear Programming. We will cover such terms as feasible regions, bounded and unbounded regions, and maximum and minimum values. Then we will work on solving systems of equations with three variables. This will bring us to the end of the chapter so expect a Test next week.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we will work on multiplying and dividing rational numbers. We will use calcultors that do fractions to help us in this capacity. Then we will begin solving simple equations using either multiplication or division. Friday is quiz day as usual.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We continue our work on Section 3-7, Percent of Change, on Monday. We will go over the concepts of sales tax and discount for a second time before we move on to Section 3-8, Solving Equations and Formulas. The chapter is then over and we will review on Wednesday and Thursday for a Chapter 3 Test Friday.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We start the week off by continuing with Section 3-2, Angles and Parallel Lines, before we go to Section 3-3 on Slopes of Lines. This section should be familiar to you since it was covered last year in your Algebra class. We will then review for a quiz on 3-1 to 3-3 scheduled for Thursday.
FYI- We have only two weeks left in the first term (can you believe it ?) so now is NOT the time to slack off. Most of you have been working hard for me and it is appreciated even though I may not show it. I hope that this will continue throughout the whole year. I have confidence in you.

WEEK OF OCT. 17-21
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We continue our work with Systems of Equations, concentrating on word problems on Monday. A quiz is planned for Tuesday and we will do Problem Solving on the half day Wednesday. Then we work on Section 3-3, solving Systems of Inequalities by Graphing.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week will be spent solving Absolute Value Equations. On Wednesday, the half day, we will do Problem Solving. We will have a Chapter Test at the end of the week.
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We have been working for two days on solving equations with variables on both sides and will continue this Monday, with a quiz scheduled for Tuesday. We wll do Problem Solving on Wednesday, the half day and then go to Section3-7, Percent of Change.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We begin the week by reviewing Chapter 2 for a Test Tuesday. Wednesday will be spent doing Problem Solving on the half day. Then we will start Chapter 3, on Parallel and Perpendicular Lines.

WEEK OF OCT. 10-14

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We will be working on solving systems of equations algebraically this week. We will use the Substitution Method and the Elimination Method. On Wednesday you will be taking the PSAT Test during Periods A-D. This will give you an idea of what the SAT will look like next year, so try your best.

ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we will work on solving simple equations using addition or subtraction.with our usual quiz on Friday. On Wednesday we will have our class in Room 232 because of the PSAT Testing.

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We begin the week by reviewing one-step and multi-step equations for a quiz on Wednesday. Then we will start solving equations with variables on both sides. Several days will be spent on this concept, one of the most important ones in Algebra 1.

GEOMETRY HONORS
We will cover Sections 2-7 and 2-8 this week, proving segment and angle relationships. Main ideas discussed will be: 1) segment addition, 2) definition of congruence, 3) angle addtion, 4) definition of complemetary and supplementary angles, and 5) Vertical Angles are Congruent. These will all be used in proofs in these sections and in future proofs. With that we will have finished the chapter and will begin our review heading towards a Chapter Test either on Friday or the beginning of next week.

WEEK OF OCT. 3-7

WEEK OF OCT.3 - 7

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We start the week by reviewing Chapter 2 for a Test on Wednesday. Then we start a unit on Systems of Equations. Systems will be solved by : 1) Graphing, 2) Substitution, and 3) Algebraically using the Elimination Method.

ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we begin Chapter 3, on Rational Numbers. These are numbers that can be written in fraction form, including whole numbers and most decimals. We will work on adding and subtracting these numbers, stressing the use of a calculator that does fractions. Then we will discuss the concepts of mean, median, mode, and range. Most of you have seen this in each of your last two years of Math, so it should not be too difficult. We will wrap up the week Friday with our usual quiz.

ALGEBRA 1A CP1
We start the week off with a review of Chapter 2 to prepare for a Chapter Test Tuesday. Then we begin Chapter 3 on solving equations, one of the most important concepts in all of Algebra. Most of you solved equations last year so the concept should not not be that hard to grasp. We will work on one-step equations and then move on to multi-step. Several days will be spent on this concept with a quiz scheduled for next week.

GEOMETRY HONORS
Last week you were introduced to Conditional Statements ("if-then") and how to write them. This week you will begin work on Formal Proofs, otherwise known as two-column proofs. We will do some algebraic proofs in Section 2-6 and review for a quiz scheduled for Thursday on Sections 2-1 to 2-6, omitting 2-4. Then we cover 2-7, Proving Segment Relationships. Such concepts as Segment Addition and Definition of Congruent Segments will be discussed and how they will be worked into proofs.

WEEK OF SEPT. 26-30

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We start the week off with a quiz on Sect. 2-1 to 2-4. Then we will cover Sect. 2-6, Special Functions. Concepts such as greatest integer function, absolute value functions, and piecewise functions will be introduced. These are true Algebra 2 ideas that you probably have not seen before. Wednesday is a half day and we will work on problem solving using the scoring rubric. From there we will work on graphing inequalities and finish off the chapter. Expect a Chapter Test early next week.

ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we will work on subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Wednesday we will work on problem solving using the scoring rubric. You may use yuor practice sheet from last week as a guide. Thursday will find us reviewing Chapter 2 for a Test on Friday.

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
Last week I introduced the idea of square roots and we will continue this work this week. The concepts of the Pythagorean Theorem and the Distance Formula will be covered as applications of radicals. We will have a quiz next week on radicals and then have a Chapter 2 Test. Also on Wednesday we will be doing problem solving that I covered last Friday.

GEOMETRY HONORS
On Monday we will practice doing problem solving using a scoring rubric. Most of you did this last year and should not have many problems. We will do one for real on Wednesday, the half day. Then we will begin Chapter 2 on Reasoning and Proof. This is the beginning your work with Logic, which tends to give some people trouble. We will learn what Inductive Reasoning is and how to write truth tables.


On Friday you will receive progress reports. All Yellow team teachers will give you a report. This just to let you know how you are doing so far this term and if there is any reason for concern.

WEEK OF SEPT. 19-23
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
This week we will work on linear equations and functions. Equations in Standard Form will be introduced and the concepts of x and y intercepts will be explained. Then we will work on slope and how it affects pairs of lines, such as parallel and perpendicular. The end of the week will find us working on a practice word problem using the Math Department Scoring Rubric.
ALGEBRA 1A CP2
We continue our work with the Coordinate Plane and graphing ordered pairs. From there we will work on a unit of operations with Integers. The rest of the week will be spent on adding and subtracting integers with our weekly quiz on Friday. One class this week will be spent on problem solving using a scoring rubric. You should be familiar with this beacause of your work on this last year.
ALGEBRA 1A CP1
Our work this week will be with the operations with Rational Numbers. I am planning a quiz on Thursday and Friday will be spent doing problem solving using the scoring rubric. You should be familiar with this because of your work last year.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We finish up Chapter One this week and will test on Wednesday. We will then start on Chapter Two, which deals with Inductive reasoning and the concept of Proofs. By the end of the week we will work on problem solving using the scoring rubric.

WEEK OF SEPT. 12-16

ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
This week we have our first quiz on Sections 1-4 to 1-6. Then we will begin Chapter 2 on relations and functions. You will learn what a relation is and how a function is formed from the relation. Also included will be function notation, f(x), how to solve them, and the idea of mapping.

ALGEBRA 1A CP2
This week we continue our work with the properties of Algebra, introducing the Commutative and Associative Properties. From there we will begin a unit on Integers and other number systems. We will learn how to graph integers on a number line and then work on the operations of integers, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We will have our weekly quiz this week on Thursday because the Camp Clark trip.

ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We begin the week by covering the Commutative and Associative Properties. Then we will will review the chapter for a Test on Wednesday. From there we start on Chapter 2, which deals with Real Numbers. Such terms as Natural, Rational, Whole, and Irrational will be discussed and we will learn how to graph these on a number lin

GEOMETRY HONORS
We have our first quiz Monday on Sections 1-1 to 1-3. Section 1-4 and 1-5 will introduce us to the concept of Angles, how they are formed and classified. Your next quiz will come after we finish 1-5.
