ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We continue our work factoring trinomials. This week the first term will have a coefficient that is not one. You will learn a method that I call the "Magic Number", but there really isn't anything magic about it. All you have to do is follow some simple rules and since most of you proved that you can factor simple trinomials, these should not be too bad for you. A quiz is scheduled for Friday.
REMINDER; PROGRESS REPORTS GO OUT FRIDAY.

WEEK OF APRIL 22-26
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We began factoring trinomials the week before vacation. This week we will continue this concept with some more detailed types of factoring that are covered in Section 8-7 of your text. We will spend the whole week working on this idea with a quiz to follow on Friday.
ALGEBRA 1 CP2
We have been working on adding and subtracting polynomials for a week now and it is time to move on to multiplication. This week we will learn how to multiply a monomial by a polynomial and a binomial by a binomial. A method called FOIL will be introduced with binomials, but all it really is is the Distributive Property, of which you are very familiar with. We will spend the entire week working on this concept with our weekly quiz on Friday.
GEOMETRY HONORS
The week before vacation we basically finished Chapter 10 on Circles. Monday will be a review day followed by a Chapter 10 Test Tuesday. Then we will go to Chapter 11 on Areas. In this chapter we will find the areas of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, rhombi, regular polygons (ie. pentagon, hexagon, etc.) and irregular figures. We will also work with sectors and Geometric Probability.

Before vacation we were working on Parabolas. Monday will be considered a review day and we will have a quiz Tuesday on just Parabolas. Then we will go to Sections 8-6 & 8-7, identifying Conic Sections and solving Quadratic Systems by graphing and algebra. In the next week or two I will also offer a review of Geometry to prepare for the MCAS Math Test later in May.
I hope that you all had a relaxing vacation, despite all the incidents that went on in Boston. Please remember that even though this is the last term we really have another one called FINAL EXAMS. This is worth the same as one term so we cannot afford to slack off. I know I won't. Remember to take advantage of Homework Club and Math Lab during your directed studies, and of course I am always here after school for you.

WEEK OF APRIL 1 to APRIL 5
ALGEBRA 1 CP1
We begin the concept of Factoring this week.. It is considered one of the most concepts that you will learn this year in Algebra. We start by looking for a GCF, greatest common factor, and taking it out of a given polynomial. For example take the expression 5x + 10. The GCF is 5 so we write this as 5 (x +2) and you have just factored. A quiz on Sections 8-3 to 8-5 is scheduled for Thursday. It will be the last one of the term.
ALGEBRA 1 CP2
The week begins with the class finishing the Pythagorean Theorem and beginning Chapter 9 on Polynomials. This week we will learn how to add and subtract polynomials and how to write them in ascrnding or descending order. The weekly Friday quiz will also include material from the previous week on Scientific Notation and the Pythagorean Theorem. This quiiz will go on the fourth term..The class has already been told this.
GEOMETRY HONORS
We continue our work in Chapter 10 with Circles, this week concentrating on inscribed angles and secants and tangents. We will compare an inscribed angle to a central angle and we will also discover some new rules affecting tangents of circles. I do not have a quiz scheduled for this week so your grades are basically closed with exception of the daily homework. Please check on Aspen.
ALGEBRA 2 HONORS
We continue our work on Conics this week by introducing you to Hyperbolas. We will spend at least two days on this topic and probably have a quiz Thursday on Ellipses and Hyperbolas.to end the the term.
